Our story

Our
Story

“Where to start?” In one sense, it’s a simple answer that starts with “us”.

A story of love after loss. A Romans 8:28 story where even before we  could see it God began taking the broken pieces of our shattered lives and began piecing them together into a beautiful mosaic of His grace and goodness.

After both losing our spouse we were heartbroken and devastated. After 20 years of marriage, we were now without the love of our lives and now single parents. Our lives we had worked so hard to build had been shattered into a million pieces.

We both separately leaned on our faith in God, our family, and our church communities. We both deeply understood the meaning of true “heartbreak”—my heart quite literally “hurt” the months following Darin’s death. Not only were we experiencing our own grief, but also shouldering the grief of our young children as well.

Though we knew life would never be the same, God had a plan for us that included healing our hearts and restoring joy in our lives again. This is a story of love after loss and the redemptive power of God's love in our lives.

We met, fell in love, and were trying to figure out how to merge our separate lives into one. Greg had just retired from 30 years in the Army and was caring for his young daughter in Stroud. I was living in Edmond with my two youngest finishing out high school.

How could this work? Where would we land?

After much prayer an opportunity to purchase the 40 acres next to Greg's farm presented itself and we landed in Stroud, OK. This allowed Greg's daughter, who was the youngest of all our children, to stay in the community, church and, school she already loved. After my youngest son finished his senior year, I moved to the farm and Cultivate Flower Farm was born!

With little to no experience growing cut flowers for production, I decided it  was something I wanted to try. The learning curve has been steep and there has been a-lot, I mean A-LOT, of dead plants along the way.

But something beautiful happened in the process...

Healing...

...healing my heart from a loss so big that it didn't feel like I would ever find my way again.
...healing from losing what I "thought" life was going to be. Grieving my family that once was and would never be the same again.

God was on display every day in front of me as I started seedlings, nurtured them, watched them grow, planted them in the field, harvested them, and made beautiful bouquets from flowers that I grew!

Through it ALL, God was was showing me that joy, renewal, and new beginnings were possible. With the proper nurturing of our mind, soul, and body HE could heal our broken hearts.

From this and the healing I have found in this new adventure...Cultivate Flower Farm has turned into a mission for me to help the brokenhearted by creating an environment where God's love and the beauty of our Creator is at your fingertips. My hope is that those who come visit our little farm will find peace, experience healing, and leave with hope...
through flowers, community, and rest-
however God decides to show up!

With all my love,
Heather McBride-Farr
